I've been in many hostels in my life and this is the best one! I can see why they have won the Best Hostel Award three months in a row. The only bad thing is that they charge a credit card fee which by the way is illigal in the state of california, other than that they are great and I recommend this hostel! M. This is a good one. I stayed in San Francisco for a week and a half and started out 3 nights at the Green Tortoise hostel. I ended up changing hostels to USA Hostels and I'm very happy with that decision. This is problably the best hostel in San Fran. The only bad thing I can think of is the price. It's a bit pricey, but I guess that comes with high quality. (Green Tortoise is no cheaper than this one, though.) Good staff, good facility, excellent security, good dorms, excellent party hostel. Really food staff. Lots of activities to get involved in. Free breakfast was a bonus. Ruth, from Australia ~ 1st Nov 2009

It's a very good pleasant place to stay. Good location for the down town and clean. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Especially I'd like to thank Marge who helped us to change the room, which mistakenly booked a mixed gender room and changed to the female only. It made a huge difference for our stay. Another staff I'd like to mention is Danise who is so friendly and helpful. We made friends and will keep in touch. We highly recommend people to go to this place. shu, from England ~ 29th Oct 2009

The towel thing is a little annoying. For some reason I got the impresion I had to rent a towel for $2 each day, and it'd be nice if the $2 charge could be added to my room charge if I come down looking for one rather than making me dig around for cash. Stephen, from Canada ~ 19th Oct 2009

I had a Twin Private Room. Everything was completely satisfying. Very good service! Clemens, from Germany ~ 19th Oct 2009

The en suite bathrooms appear to only be cleaned once a week, so the shower was filthy when I arrived. I've stayed in many hostels before, but never in one that had so many security measures (or so many rules, for that matter). Breakfast is free make-your-own pancakes, and they are delicious. If you are the type of person who likes to participate in activities at the hostel, this would be a great place for you. I prefer to explore the city by myself, though.
