Helpful staff, excellent facilities and decent prices. Free breakfast also very welcome! Would definitely recommend to someone planning a trip to Melbourne. Sam, from England ~ 20th Nov 2009

Urban central was well positioned and the staff were outstanding, certainly worth the extra few dollars a night (compared to other backpackers) Matt, from Australia ~ 5th Nov 2009

I didn't really enjoy my stay! the girls from the reception are very rude, check in is very late, and the people who work there don't seem to know anything abouy melbourn! It is a big hostel full of people, but for some reason they are not friendly at all!!!! it is over 10 blocks from the federation square. I wouldn't go back. Gabriela, from Argentina ~ 28th Sep 2009

sleep optional. it says it on the building and its true. i woke up sweating as the sheets were too thick (and this july in melbourne!), the pub is a nightclub that you can hear 2 floors up at 5am,; outside there is a constant stream of noise from downstairs and the common rooms are agood idea, except people watch movies till all hours and keep you awake. did i mention that the other room doors will wake you up when they shut?no, well that topped it off. the rooms smelt too, and lots of long ter Paul, from Scotland ~ 28th Jul 2009

This has been one of the the very best hostels that I have ever stayed at. It is only fifteen minutes walk from the heart of downtown. The staff are all very helpful and very polite. The rooms are very big and spacious. The kitchen and eating area are also very big. The free continental breakfast every morning is just excellent to start your day. There is a bar on the main floor and everyday they plan activities to make all visitors feel welcome, such as cheap food and cheap drinks. Kal, from USA ~ 20th Jul 2009

Well located just around the corner for a tram which can take you through city and to Brunswick Street. Breakfast was chaotic battling with the crowd. Saturday night appeared to have a nightclub at the side of the building with a drunken crowd milling around the club door. On the ground floor could be heard shouts and screams from drunk girls. The rooms are completely dark without the light switched on, so sleepers may be disturbed by the light being switched on. peter, from Australia ~ 16th Jul 2009

Very nice place that offers a lot for very little money. Rooms without a window are less cosy but at night extra quiet. Lots of free food, cheap drinks at the bar. Staff is young, very friendly and always up for party tips. Location is ok, about 15 min walk to the city (Flinders). Only the security is their weak point. I heard of personal items stolen (not mine), and the luggage room is not supervised. If you're into hostels and like to meet people from all over the world this is your place.
