money spent of downstairs gymn and family programs, but really needs upgrading in the rooms upstairs. it is tired and shared bathrooms not always clean. rooms are very tiny and the upper bunks are difficult unless you are tall. rooms have inconsistent furniture, some with big old clunky tvs that take up a lot of room on the puny dresser. for me its not worth it but the fabulous location helped to overlook a myriad of problems. nino, from Canada ~ 28th Oct 2009

I liked so much of this place, it´s clean, they change the towel every day, but not the linen. Here it isn´t like a hostel, because the most of rooms are individuals ánd they don´t have a common room. If you travel to meet people, here it isn´t the place. Although, if you come by exchange schools, maybe you can meet people and friendship. It´s close to United Nations, but you have to walk for 10 min till the nearer subway station. They have a gym and a pool that you can use. I do recommend adriana, from Brazil ~ 8th Oct 2009

Have been in van der Bilt many times, always enjoyed it. Will come back next time. Only difference is the cleanliness rooms weren,t clean and so were the men's restrooms on the 10 th floor. Maybe an execption. Love the pool, very clean there!! martine, from Netherlands ~ 24th Sep 2009

It's the 2nd time I stayed there. Overall, if you need a place to sleep, this hostel is all right. A few remarks: - I got there at 1 p.m., but check-in was available only at 3 p.m. I was offered to leave my luggage in a closet, which I found helpful. I traveled from Boston - it's not like I spent much time in the road and needed a shower - When I checked in, at ~11 p.m., there was a long line at the reception and it took me 40-50 mins to do that.
