Good staff. Breakfast was minimal but good. A few of the rooms were closed down by the city for some reason, but the hostel seemed clean. Air conditioning helped a lot in the summer heat. Only real gripe is that there are no locks on the individual rooms, only on the doors off of the main hallway which each lead to 3 separate rooms. This kind of made me nervous about security, but I didn't have any real issues due to it. Great location in the East Village, lots of bars and restaurants nearby, and only about a 5-10 minute walk from subway stations. Would probably stay here again.

This hostel has a very good price and location. The East Village is a great area and it feels very safe. The included breakfast is one of the most generous I´ve ever seen in a hostel (the only thing missing was creme cheese with the bagels, NY style). Staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay here again if I come back.

Biggest problem was the heat. The window A/C units were functioning properly, but simply aren\\\\\\\'t powerful enough to cool small room of six guys. I was literally sweating in my bed just laying there. Suggest arranging beds feet-to-feet instead of head to head. Hostel needs some sort of sign. Half the building is condemned because there is no fire escape on one side, so they only put people on the side with the stairwell. O verall, Clean, Quiet, but HOT

Village Inn is a newer hostel, and not all of the rooms are currently in use. My room was clean, though the ensuite bathroom had a mild musty smell. Great location. My biggest suggestion to the hostel would be to install bedside reading lamps or something similar to help prevent disturbing roommates who are earlier to bed. Also, be ready for a good round of exercise if you're on a higher floor (the stairs are steep). will stay again
the free breakfast was outstanding, you get orangejuice, bagels, muffins, fruit and coffee. The location is very convienient aswell, but what's best: it's as clean as no hostel I've ever stayed at!

Angie the night Clerk was so fantastic... she, most of all, made my hostel visit enjoyable. The strange Jewish guy with skin problems had 0 freindliness factor... I would fire him ASAP. I probably will stay here again because of the location, and the front desk person Angie.

A really nice hostel that I look forward to be coming back to. The East village is a central and fun area. The staff is great and know NYC quite well, ask them for advise if you don´t know where to go. I made lots of friends in the common area where you always can find somebody to hang out with.
Pluses - Clean, safe, very modern, central, free internet, cheap cold bottled water. Minuses - Owner barely spoke english, 10 minutes from public transport if your bags are heavy, aircons in rooms noisy if you sleep lightly. I'd try other places next time i came to New York, but I'd also go again the third time I came.

The location is excellent - right next to Port Authority and Penn but everything else is a bit rough and ready. The free internet is a plus, but doesn't come with breakfast. Has air conditioning, a bit small and cramped, but people are nice enough.
the air is not good in the room, i couldnt breathe, and staff never smile. air conditioner should be replaced, it's just beside by the bed, my friends couldnt sleep at all, (cold air poured her face straigtly,) and no elevator.. it was tough to move suitcase,, the room and stairs are too narrow
