  • amazing location, never used any of the facilities but didn't want to them anyway, bag holding was just really a pile in the front lobby so it wasn't really "safe" and at times the guard was not at the desk so anyone could have grabbed stuff. Other then that it was a good place to stay and if I went back to NYC I would stay here again. Some people had complained about noise but while we were there all the guests were quite, only saw one bug the whole time there which was a cockroach.

  • No information on the facilities at check in, poor breakfast (not provided); an horrible smel when you arrive at the 9th floor, all is old and damaged. The room: small, sad, old, damaged everywhere, TV not working, 2 single bed stacked without security. The common bathroom: nothing to put your clothes or stuff, you must go naked with your towel only (no place for shoes as all wet), douche like a karcher, nowhere to dress but in front of others. A pitty as it was my favorite YMCA 13 years ago :(

  • I was on the 12th floor in a single room. The bathrooms were very very dirty. Location of hostel is superb. Suggest you give information on pool and need to bring swimming cap when confirming booking. I lost walking canes in the hostel, maybe in washroom on ground floor or in the food machine place but they were not handed in.

  • My daughter and I arrived late at night and were welcomed by very freindly staff. Check in was easy and fast. The room was small and dull. A good cleaning and fresh paint are needed. During the night smoke detectors were beeping and we could hear other guests arriving on the floor and in their rooms. The bathroom was small for the number of people using it. In the morning it was nice to sit in the common room with travelers from around the world eating breakfast from the affordable cantina.

  • This facility is in EXTREME need of repair. In my room, the light switch was busted out, one of the electric outlets was hanging off the wall, and the ladder for the bunk beds was the wrong size, thus unsafe to use. In the bathroom, one of the toilets didn't flush, one of the sinks didn't work, and one of the shower walls had a gaping hole in it. I would never recommend anyone to stay at this hostel. I can easily accept old facilities - as long as they are in working order.

  • The women's bathroom on the floor that I was on had a defective lock which made it impossible to completely close the door and nothing was done about it although I complained twice to the front desk. The curtains in my room fell down (hooks fell out of the wall) and that was not fixed, although I did tell them at the desk. The facilities, both bathrooms and sleeping rooms, are not clean. The coin-operated drink machine was out of most of the selections for the entire 5 days of my stay.

  • Location was excellent! One block away from Central Park, and one block away from Lincoln Center. However, Ms. Gordon is a very rude lady. I got to the YMCA at 3am and she was the only staff member at that time. She requested my passport upon my arrival and told me she had to keep it because "I was Mexican". That, indeed, was very rude to say...what would she had said if I was Japanese?? There ways to say that there are policies to follow and kindly request my only personal document.

  • I feel that a consideration for my age (68) would have made my stay much, much more pleasant. I was on a floor (7th) where a large group of younger people who knew each other, were staying. The constant 'banging' of doors late into the night & early in the morning echoed through my room - the doors are steal + spring loaded. It kept me awake! I thought this sound was throughout the building & 'grating'! However, a friend once stayed on the 8th floor & did 'not' experience this racket at all.

  • The room was not clean, bad madrasses covered in plastic, the toilets were not clean either and I found a big bug in there - not so fun!

  • The staff wasn't welcoming and kind of rude. The location was pretty good and the area safe. I booked a single bed room which was uncomfortable. Everything look old and not well maintained. I'm trying out a different hostel next time. I'll only stay there if I need to stay around that location

  • The location is great, close to subways, buses. The main objective to my staying here is to take advantage of the gym and pool.

  • Fantastic location. But worn down and old needs attention and some TLC to bring up to scratch. Too expensive for what you get.

  • For the money, it is fantastic, but don't go to it expecting five-star treatment. Great location!

  • It was a bit scary at night to be seemingly almost the only one on the floor, especially when going to the bathroom.

  • With the number of people using the bathrooms, it would be nice if they were checked/cleaned more often.

  • Had a very helpful front desk staff and enjoyed the people at the desk in the lobby. Very pleasant to return from being out all day and having a smile.

  • Very safe, clean bedrooms (cleaned every day + new towels every day) with tv, clean bathrooms, good location (close to subway). Fitness and pool available. Lock on the bathroom doors for girls. By staying in this hostel i could safe some money to do other things.

  • I need a refund on some of my deposit as I had canceled with hostel prior and only stayed there the first night and I had paid nearly $40 deposit, I left and went to a diff hostel as YMCA was housing residents from queens that were affected in the hurricane and there were no tourists just a lot of angry people. I stayed one night and canceled the other nights and moved to a diff hostel, YMCA said you would refund me some of the deposit as I had a cancelation fee attached that I paid.
