A pretty good hostel really. Good value for money in the dorms - the rooms were a comfortable temperature for sleeping, with decent quality linen. The beds could have been more comfortable, and guests checking in at 3 am most nights meant interrupted sleep, but to be expected in a dorm. The other facilities were great - huge, bright common areas, well equipped kitchen, pool table & chill out space downstairs. Internet very expensive though! WiFi should be free - not $5/hr! The kitchen was the best I've encountered so far, clean, spacious, well equiped & never crowded. Staff were friendly & helpful. But the dorms, showers & toilets all need much better ventilation- opening windows in front dorms meant traffic & smokers noise, meanin disagreements on whether to keep closed or open. Loo's smelly, showers really clammy. Lounge area characterless & strip-lit. Though the cleaners work hard, there should also be an evening shift cuz the showers & hallways got dirty fast. Really really annoyed with this hostel - I rang before booking and asked to reserve a car park for the night of our stay, the lady on the ph said that this would be no problem so I went ahead with the booking. Upon reaching Auckland and checking in was told that there were NO available parks and no other option was available for parking with them. Ended up paying $70 for parking!!! Excelent location, staff very kind and working hard to be as helpfull as possible. However it would be nice to see improvements in cleanliness of linen, we had ones with strange stains on it... and the internet connection is a real dissaster - gyus this is 21st century, you cannot offer your mostly young and technology-demanding clientelle connectivity for scandalous 5nzd per hour - that is what i view as a major impact on my overall experience with YHA Auck Intl. The room was very Stuffy No ventilation. We asked if this could be rectified.No reply. The toilet door near our room was off its hinges,to shut the door you had to slam it,not very nice in the early hours.
