Although the building is beautiful and located exactly where I needed to be (which is why I chose it) this Boston Y hostel needs a complete makeover. The toilet was broken, as was the window shade in my room, the heat was too strong and the amenities were the bare minimum. They also used to serve breakfast which no longer exists. In addition, the web site made me pay for a 4 bed-room when in reality they had a 2 bed available. All in all, I felt as if I was slumming it in an SRO.

Location is very good, but I do not feel safe. Especially I cannot lock the door inside. Any one with a key can open my door even I am sleeping.

Attention !!! Only men are allowed during the winter period even if Hostel World accepts a mixed reservation and debits the 10% fees from your account. YMCA will not accept women. Good luck !!!

Nothing much to say, but it is very likely I would come back if i was in a similar situation. Didn't look into that much around though since we only stayed for one night.

Good location, near T station, however rooms look a bit old and there is not much to do in the hostel, just use it for sleeping.

i was very dissapointed because they claim they have double rooms and they don't all of their rooms are dorm style. so we ended up getting bunk beds

There was very little hot water -- not really enough for a shower. The room was spare but neat. A tv would have been nice but I got along quite well without it. Aparentl there was some kind of residential treatment program housed in the same area as the room I was rented. I did not feel in any way threatened by that but some might feel differently. The blankets provided were thin and te hea was apparently not turned on. Okay for a mild early fall but if it had gotten much colder it would have been uncomfortable. If there were any amenities, no one told me about them.
