Really nice staff, great place. Probably best for people wanting to escape stone town's hectic character.

Staff is friendly and personable. They'll set up tours for you. Mwajuma, the young lady who tends the home during the day is very kind. I stayed in the 4-bed dorm room for $15. It has no door, but a curtain substitute. Bathroom does not have shower curtains. Breakfast served free of charge. Great place if you want time of solitude, but it's about 15-20 min ride to Stone Town on dala-dala.

A great place to stay, home from home, and it was the perfect start to my round the world trip. Sorry to hear that it will be closing at the end of the year. Thanks Bruce, Juma, and all the staff.

The staff at ZBH are super friendly and helpful. They make you feel right at home, and when you go, it feels like you are leaving family behind!
This is a great place to stay if you're looking for something off the beaten path.
Lovely place and the staff are fantastic - arranging day trips and taxis and walking us back from a local restaurant at night to ensure we got back safely. Rooms are spacious and clean but note that, despite what this website says, there is no twin room with ensuite - there are two doubles (both ensuite), one room with a double bed and a single bed with shared bathroom and a twin, also with shared bathroom ,which strangely does not seem to have its own door, only a curtain separating it from the dining room. Best bit of the hostel has to be the 'beach hut' in the garden - raised up on stilts it has lovely views out over the indian ocean, a great place to relax with a bottle of wine!
