The hostel is in a great location. It is relatively new so has lots of home comforts. It is located near Cowgate so outside becomes a little bit noisy outside on a Fri and Sat night. So it might not be the best for a quite weekend. I would recommend the hostel to friends.
loveley hostel to stay in location-excellent literally 5 min from everything...bit of confusion with regards where designated "drinking" areas are but the mix up was sorted quickly, defo. go back.

After staying in over 20 hostels around Europe I can certainly say that this is on of the top 3 in all senses!!! Spent New Year 2008 in there and besides a taylor made service they offered to all guests a massive party which was awesome! I would like to thank all the time of the Smarcity Hostel and really hope to come back one day!!!! Cheers, Janice Amaral
A great location for old city Edinburgh. We had a wonderful time as everything is in walking distance.
Just the best hostel I ever been in my life. ***** hostel. The only one inconvenience is the check-in, that start at 3pm. (should be at midday) Simplesmente o melhor hostel que eu já estive na vida. O unico incoveniente é o check-in que começa as 3 da tarde. (deveria ser ao meio dia)
A very nice modern hostel. Free wifi was very nice! The bar/cafe/sitting area in the basement was nice. The beds are nothing to write home about, but everything else makes up for that. I would stay here again.

Don't follow the directions given on the website - it has you going up a very long and steep staircase which is very unnecessary. Also, the hostel is located at the base of a steep hill. Keep that in mind if you are travelling with a lot of luggage.
