We had a great experience there, but with 2 problems.1) Security seemed lax when the "night club" was open (someone could have easily slipped inside the hostel2) Showers were the push and hold type...and power was off one of the mornings. Robert, from USA ~ 17th Jan 2012

I was a little worried when I first showed up to check in and had to wait over half an hour for a staff member to show up, but it ended up being a great experience! The staff were friendly and funny, and happy hour was super. It was pretty loud at night, but I didn't really expect to get sleep anyway. Loved Interlaken, the hostel is 'the' hostel to stay at in town. Food is expensive, even at the supermarket, but the prices at the hostel resto were quite fair. Internet password system is a bit stupid, and a lot of the wash/dry machines were broken. Left ALL our travel documents at the counter when we checked in - lady saw us 6 times after and didn't mention it, though some girls in the morning helped me find them! Balmers is not one of my favorite hostels.Take this with a grain of salt, however.I was in a ten-person dorm that should have only been sleeping four or five.Likewise, space for luggage was a bit tricky.Our bathrooms were shared by an entire floor of perhaps more than thirty people.There is a very nice club in the basement and a bar/grill in the main courtyard.Both had drink specials.Also, there was an activities desk to help facilitate day trips.If staying, choose a smaller room Barrett, from USA ~ 13th Aug 2011

Big and cheerful place to stay! But location was a bit far from both west and ost station (about 20 mins by foot) and reception desk was always always too crowded. It always took pretty long time to check in or out or even ask a simple question. Jungeun, from South Korea ~ 28th Jul 2011
