i have been in barra hostel it is so nice.and i stay there alone but i felt a nice atmosphere specially the staff..i have only good words for this place and it is strongly recommended in my opinion..

Une chouette auberge de jeunesse, les lits sont un peu dur mais les chambres sont sympas. l'esprit est très convivial, on peut manger à l'hotel pour un prix dérisoire. Le quartier n'a rien exceptionnel mais il est facilement accesible et sécurisé, un plus à Salvador. Amélie, from France ~ 29th Aug 2011

The good: Well located,near amenities,friendly staff (although some of the staff spoke limited english making communication difficult),very good cheap dinners,secure, decent kitchen and lots info about Salvador. The bad: The bathroom attached to our room had significant damp and there was mould on the walls. The room smelled because of the damp. The bed wasn't comfortable. Take the restaurant recommendations with a pinch of salt- don't go to ones at the end of the road, go to Zeus in the Pelo!

OMG!!!! I really think that Hostelworld could give us (hostels) a way to rate our guests as well. The damp you blamed for the bad smell was sorted out in the very minute you complained. Now, let`s see my review about you? A - Character - 0 B -Security -0 ( you have embaressed my staff every single day when you after having your breakfast helped yourself with a plastic bag and put two sandwiches with lots of ham and cheese and cake) to go out for your walking tours) - You really could have asked and explained your situation, we would surely help you and we could even make the sandwiches for you. Now, hiding food in your bags is not very cool, is it C - Location - X0x0x0x0 D - Its the very first time someone complains about the staff with a limited english - maybe if you had used some magic words such as = Por favor - Com licenca -- Obrigado or just tried a little bit to smile the comunication would have been better. Theres no door that a beautiful smile cant open E - Fun - You both kept yourselves hiden in a shell, barely looked to the maps explanation guy - who happens to be English so there was no language bareer there. You have been in your own bubble despite the staff effort to aproach F- Cleanliness - Hummm... I better not say anything but the dump smell disapeared soon after you left. The bed wasn't comfortable. In more than hundreds and hundreds of reviews you are the only one to complain. What I don't get is why so many complaints after you left? We/re always there to help the guest and to give them whatever they need. Next stop try not to hide food in your bag and respect Ones place not leaving your clothes all around. We're a hostel, not a Hotel to take care of your clothes. I hope you learn and start respecting the other guests in your next hostel and don't think that nobody saw you with the food. Everyone did. We were just polite and avoided a situation. About the restaurants in the corner, they are good and with fair prices, there's one that was elected the Best Bar of Salvador by bunchs of people and expertises but you, again, is saying that the restaurant isn't good for you. Well, well, if you're not used to hostels,next time book yourself in a 5 stars Hotel - but don't put food in your bag, you sure will be very but very embarassed.
