In a perfect world, all hostels would like Base St Kilda. The hostel's clean, safe, has lots of amenities/ facilities, there's a travel agent/ centre linked to the hostel, the staff are young, fun and helpful AND there are social events on most nights (incl Thurs and Fri are the BIG parties). Just keep in mind that it's a $15-20 cab ride from downtown Melbourne to St Kilda if you want party in the CBD til after midnight...

the rooms are pretty good....the kitchen is big, but dirty....the location is wonderful....5 minutes to the beach....2 minutes to the scene quarter of st. kilda

We loved Base! The atmosphere was so fun and friendly, and the staff was great. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to have a good time.

This is the second time I satyed in Base. I like it very much as it has a great bar down stairs & all the rooms are en suite. Shower excellent!

Nice, new facility. We had a private room, which was immediately above the bar. The bar played loud music until midnight, and the loud talking in the bar lasted longer. But it wasn't unreasonable noise. Earplugs recommended. Also, the lobby with computers and Skype access were always noisy with music, which made Skype calls difficult. Staff were super, very flexible and cheery. The $6 continental breakfast wasn't very good and wasn't a good value. The room was pretty clean, although hous

This is a perfect hotel for real backpackers, if you want to have fun, party, have easy access to the beach... But I came here waiting to move in my accomodation... as I am a student I thought it was too noisy (the music in the bar is so loud!!). And the kitchen always overcrowded

This place was located in a fine area with conveninet transportation from the Airport as well as to and from the city centre. The rooms were infact clean and tidy. The bar downstairs however was far too loud. I enjoy a good time in a bar but the volume of the music was surely unncessary and could be heard from my room untill past 1:30am.
