Location is not really near downtown but it is quiet and near the university, just the dorm is not good with a poor roof noisy when the wind blow, hot with the sun and cold at night, but very good kitchen and quite cool staff. Rinaudo, from France ~ 27th Mar 2013

Castle Tam is wonderful!Off the beaten track, but right on a bus route to head back into downtown, the university close by ensures that there is plenty to do and plenty of good places to eat near by.The staff are friendly, the accomodations are nice, and the outdoor sitting area is a great place to chat with other travellers.If you miss television, they have all the channels, and in english!Jonathon's walking tour of downtown is exceptional, make sure you get on one of those,he tells all Alex, from USA ~ 22nd Jan 2013

This is a great hostel. Staff are wonderful Jon, the owner is there often and is hilarious. The other guest, several of the long term. were great to hang out with. Location is about 15 mins away from downtown San Jose in bus. Would highly recommended and will stay again on my next trip to Costa Rica Marco, from USA ~ 28th Sep 2012

Pros: Friendly, knowledgeable staff and residents. Free tour of the city, many events organised (films, rollerblading), eager to help, recovered a bag for us that had been lost at the airport. Laundry, good wifi, easy to get downtown with a bus, near supermarket. Good environment for English speakers. Cons: Cleanliness. Room half-clean, sheets didn't stay on bed. Kitchen not all cleaned regularly (esp.fridge), showers got cold quickly and backed up. Very poorly lit room, could not open curta Maeve, from USA ~ 7th Jun 2012
