Didn't like it at all. We were probably to old to apriciate the location, and it sounded like we had the nightclub inside our room.

Staff - unprofessional and rude (It's only about the 2 of them I have met) Security - we got the keys to someone else's room and walk into their room in the middle of the night whilst they were out enjoying themselves - I think it says a lot about security...
During the two nights stay there was more mistakes like that made - when we finally got the right keys - there was a guy staying there that had to leave in the middle of the night because he was given the wrong key.... And I am not sure if

The location was pretty good, close to the train station. The internet was free and there was also free coffee and tea, very nice. There was a lot of tour info, also very good. The stairs to the flat was a little smelly. The bunk beds were squeaky and beds were very lumpy. If you like to party, this is your place, especially on the 4th of July, I had English party-er guys who were very loud just outside my door, not very impressed. Perhaps all the party-ers should be grouped together. I

This place is a stinky hole. We stayed in two apartments and in both you could smell sweat. They don't change the sheets for the whole bed after each guest and you get only one small additional sheet to use it somehow... It was disgusting! Bathroom was fine.

The staff, a guy called Sam from Australia were exceptionally nice.
There weren't any curtains in the room and it looked over a building site where there were people working every morning - bit tricky getting changed etc. The doors also bang VERY loudly all the time. Great location though and great that internet and storage is free and you can get a cup of tea too. Thanks for the stay.

When researching this hostel I came across a site that confirmed there was parking available. Upon arrival I found this was not the case. This perhaps was not the hostel's fault, but when I asked if there was anywhere in the area that I could park up I was directed to a main road that turned out to be a premium rate, maximum 4 hour zone, pretty useless for a 3 days stay.
I returned to ask for any alternatives and I was recommended to just leave it parked on the yellow lines outside - pretty awf

I had the best time at Cowgate..Of all the hostels, it was my favorite...A longer walk than some but not so far that it was an inconvenience..Someone came to clean the bathrooms every day..The beds were comfortable enough..There's a pub across the street..I would definitely stay again!
