1st night arrived 1.30am and had to be up at 6am for start of tour. Put our sheets on doorstep only to be told by office woman that I was the silly bitch who didn't see the laundry bin next to the door. Not impressed as we were very tired.

The staff were excellent, very helpful! In terms of the hostel, a fair walk to town, not much amenities around, and my room was right beside the kitchen! Constant noise. No what I was looking for when booking a private room. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for.

Bad points: One particular staff member was unfriendly and seemed she did not want to be there. Small kitchen with limited facilities. About 15 min walk to the happening areas. Not so clean. Average room. Plus point - has a small pool. For the price you pay, you are better off staying closer in town on Mithchelle street for the same price.

this hostel was great the staff were really helpful and friendly and the facilities were always clean. it is nice and quiet on an evening so you can get a good nights sleep and it isn't to far out of town. it is right near cairns central shopping centre. so a pretty good location.

As soon as you see the property, you already feel you have made the right decission to book Elkes, the setting is superb! The tours I booked were from the excellent advice from Mark (Reception), great value & perfect for my needs. The only down-comment, it was a pity I hadn't been advised I would be calling security to check in, I could have called them en route from the airport at 2am. Aside form that I recommend Elkes to everyone!!

Not a nice place, it had a bad vibe, very dirty,we had stuff stolen off the balcony area, very noisey, lots of drunken guys, wouldn't recommend for female lone travellers, more like a squatters hostel!!
