This place is in a great location, not central downtown but in between downtown and ponsonby, so you can walk to both in 10 minutes. the place is spotless, but sometimes this made it feel a little sterile, I was scared to eat my toast in case I dropped crumbs!! The owner is a lovely indian lady who will help you with everything. Not a party hostel :-)

If you want a peaceful place to stay overnight Freeman's Lodge is the place to go to. It is very close to the center so stopping by in the nightlife will not be a problem either. The place is not a typical backpackers hostel but more like a homelike B&B. The personnel running the place was maybe the friendliest of all the hotels I have stayed in. I warmly recommend this for anyone who appreciates good service and a good night sleep for a reasonable price.

We had a very nice stay at the Freemans Lodge. The staff were very helpful in helping us find our way around Auckland, and in booking a cab to the airport. They also let us store our bags at the hostel for the day, even though we had already checked out. The only negative aspect of this hostel (if it is a negative aspect) was that it was not as community oriented as other hostels as far as meeting people - it was more like a hotel.

Lovely place to chill out, not a party hostel but you definately meet some good folk here. Landlady is super helpful and really goes out of her way to make sure you have a relaxing stay.
