I've stayed in a lot of hostels, and the Green Tortoise was by far the best one i've been too. As a solo traveler, i met some great people there (volunteered to help cook dinner). The staff was excelent and very helpful, the food was good (free dinner always a good perk), and the rooms had plenty of space, huge lockers for your luggage, personal electrical outlets and lights at every bed, and plenty of bathrooms. I had a really good time at the Green Tortoise Hostel !! I would definitely recommand that place for any travellers going to San francisco, the place is clean, the staff is always likeky to help you (with a smile) and it is located in the center of the city. Jérémie, from France ~ 10th Apr 2012

The Green Tortoise was a great hostel! I had never stayed in a hostel before and I was really nervous but the staff were very comforting and super friendly. Green Tortoise Hostel is a nice and friendly place to stay in San Francisco. It is right at the heart of the city and everywhere is close by. This place was so loud! I was in one of the rooms that faced the street and I felt like I was trying to sleep inside the club on the Saturday. Friday was loud but not as loud. Too many clubs around. A huge locker where you can put anything there!!!! Staffs are super friendly and helpful!!! Love the breakfast and free dinner nights!!! The only thing you have to pay attention is this hostel is located in an area full of adult night clubs and it gets so noisy at night time- ready ur ear plugs!!!
