NICE weekend just past with family. Last night marred however with first and LAST time staying at Hostelling International (specifically HI-Santa Monica). So I checked in last night and dropped off most of my stuff in my room. Walked down to Santa Monica Pier and back, no problem. Got back to my room and used the wifi for about an hour (it was slow). Good thing I didn't turn in early b/c at 11:13pm there's someone at the door and I figure it's one of my dorm mates. I look up (I'm sitting on Marie, from USA ~ 11th Aug 2012

Almost everything is great. but the location may waste you a lot of time to reach the downtown LA, Hollywood or universal studio. and also the price is a little bit over my budget Keren, from China ~ 9th Aug 2012

I really enjoy my stay there. For the price and the location, I can't complaint about it. Only problem I have is with the staff and their room assignment. They need to train their staff how to handle the room assignment. Some of us are forced to check out and check back in. The reason they gave is because a big group is coming. what??? priority??. my last night even crazier. For the price, HI Los Angeles is one of the best located accommodations around.The staff are helfpul and there are plenty of organised activities available to travellers staying at the hostel.As a repeat visitor I thought the hostel common areas had been improved since my last visit though would add that the bathrooms/dorms are starting to look a little dated.Even some minor additions like individual reading lights in the dorms would make for a more comfortable stay. This was my first Hostel visit.Didn't know much about the experience I was encountering.Was taken aback when I had to wash my own dishes, coffe mug, etc.Was surprised that "shared bathroom" meant for the entire floor, not just my five other bunk mates.Was surprised that men and women shared the same floor. Was surprised that so many of them felt so at ease with walking aroung in just a towel, not a problem, just a surprise.Place was clean and secure. Richard, from USA ~ 13th Jun 2012

This HI Hostel is in the best location right next to the beach. Free WiFi, great staff with secure and clean rooms. You can't drink alcohol in this hostel which means it's not a 'party place' but people are very friendly. I would 100% recommend this hostel and HI hostels in general Thomas, from England ~ 8th Jun 2012
