HI-San Francisco-Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisko, Amerika

There is a lot of history to the Hostel in Fort Mason and it is good that the architecture has not been altered a great deal.It is basic and plain, like an army barracks, but that does not mean it is not comfortable. The common areas have excellent light and many have views of the Bay.There is a large park adjacent to the hostel and a relatively short walk to restaurants and tourist attractions. The atmosphere was good and the location was great - with a great view! The staff was really friendly and the rooms were ok. It wasn't really clean though. It didn't really bother us, because we only stayed for a night and didn't look to closely. i liked the location, that it was a quiet place, that you can sit on a bicycle and ride in seconds in the green grounds (p.e. marina). and i liked the cafe franco with the possibility to order something to eat, like the very good salad :-) or the free breakfast in the morning! The tour Henry provided free was superior.He totally refused a tip even tho he earned it several times over.Great guy, well informed, totally prepared w/ info on everything we asked about, kind and patient as well as concerned about our well being and that of the planet, encouraging us to use disposables sparingly, etc.He was the high point but I have only praise for the wonderful staff as well.The place was clean and the food just fine.Easy to meet people in the common room.Very fun valerie, from USA ~ 6th Feb 2012
