Hostel Pangea in La Pedrera, Costa Rica

I rated the staff and atmosphere as being poor.After staying at Hostel Pangea I realized that this hostel is a chain of hostel companies across Costa Rica.Most hostels I have stayed at and the ones I had the most fun were all hostels that were ran and operated by the owners.This hostel had no personality nor personal touch.You couldnt bring outside food into the common area. No kitchen.And not a social hostel.

I am the owner of Pangea who is responding to your complaint , the same person who checked you in and gladly gave you all the info you requested . I do not see a reason why i am going to mention i am the owner if you never asked but let me tell you i bulit and design what Pangea is over the years and all the amenities and great features ARE my personality and my personal touch we are the hostel with most social areas in town , check your guidebook it will give you an honest and professional review of what Pangea really is !

This is a (bad) bar with a hostel and not the other way around. Dorm walls were so thin that I could hear all the noise from the corridor and upper floor. Besides, doors creeked all the time, which together made it great for sleeping... Bunks were some of the worse I've expericenced in the last 11 months travelling. The worst though, was the incredible rude staff. I was refused printing a flight ticket at 22 pm, although the guy had the printer on and was not doing anything. Just because!

Sorry , we are a high traffic hostel and we change beds once a year, EVERY year and now is the time . The great news are that all the new mattresses just arrived !! You can print stuff with us until 9 pm and you wanted to use the printer from the info-center at 11 pm ,the person that you said "refused" to help you with the printer was the security guard and he doesn't have a password for it , we explained this to you several times and you got mad JUST BECAUSE you had to pay 50 cents next morning for printing outside the hostel.

money-oriented hostel, even a locker has to be rented. tiny room, no common fridge nor allowed to eat your food on existing tables as there is a restaurant. 2 out of 8 computers working and no chairs not to surf tool long. security and locarion are good though. definitively not a backpacker spirit.

Lockers are FREE you leave a DEPOSIT (money you get back ) because we provide padlocks with keys at NO CHARGE , you can store your food at the reception since we have a fridge just for that and that ofcourse is FREE , 8 brand new computers and all of them with FREE high speed internet , you can eat your supermarket food anywhere else besides the restaurant which is common sense, you said you wanted a small dorm for less people and you got that also, the only thing you paid for was your bed ,we are sorry if you wanted that also for free and that made you write a comment like this .

They take security extremely serious, and its a good thing being in downtown San Jose.Very large for a hostel though, so it takes away from some of the character, but a great jumping off point to explore Costa Rica Andrew, from USA ~ 16th Jan 2012
