We stayed at Hostelling International for one night in January 2012. The hostel itself is in a central location and is great for exploring San Diego and the local bar/restaurant scene. We stayed in a private room with bathroom, the room was clean and comfortable. We were very disappointed with the staff who we found to be rude and unaccommodating. Excellent location: close to the city with shopping and restaurants, and the harbour. Good communications. Hotel room: Lightning wasn't so good, there were no bed lamps... Breakfast: Ran out of bread by 9am every day...

Also, we have been trying out some new breakfast items, so we are still learning in terms of ordering the correct quantities for all of the hungry travelers. This hostel is very hip and cute. It's also in a perfect location downtown with beautiful views of the city. But if you have a car, parking was a little difficult. Also since it's close to all of the bars and night life, it was quite noisy until 2am.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate the kind words. A few notes, we are in a great location downtown, so yes it can be noisy. We recommend that people call us ahead of time to book a room that is on the building's interior, that is if they want a quieter room. Also, we should be making improvements soon that will take care of some of the street noise. In terms of parking, it can be a bit tricky. We do send out a pre-check-in letter that details the parking situation downtown though, so check your email a few days before you arrive and you should get it. Thanks again! -HI San Diego Downtown

We absolutely loved our stay. Nice and helpful staff, charming room, great kitchen, being allowed to use public areas after checkout, everything worked out just perfectly.

Great Place. Went with my seven year old and he loved it! Our room was very nice, bed was comfy and staff was super helpful. Some of the travellers seemed to be a bit snooty, but I guess you'll have that. Overall, though, I will absolutely stay there again!
