I stayed in the 8-bed dorm next to the kitchen. They put a 9th person on an inflatable mattress on the floor, so the room was extremely crowded. If you want to sleep, request a different room, as the heavy fire door that is just outside the dorm slams every 15 seconds until 4AM. It sounds like a WWE match in the hall-extremely noisy! Cleaning and dishwashing is done by guests, so it was pretty gross most of the time. No lockers provided. Close to beach and free WIFI at the library. Michelle, from USA ~ 28th Feb 2012

If you don't mind taking the bus out to the burbs, it's great. The beach is absolutely gorgeous! Would go back if I came back to Christchurch. Take two city buses, not the shuttle from the airport. Save yourself $28!! Take one bus to the city centre and then 5 or 40 to the backpackers. It stops right across the street. The people there are great! Thanks to everybody! The hostel is run by a elderly couple, which is quite unusual when you expect a backpacker behind the front desk. Upon arrival you are required to pay for your sheets (unless you bring your own sleeping bag), and then get to watch these people make your bed for you...very odd, especially because the youngest staff member was not under 60. The atmosphere an look & feel of the (small) hostel is between your gran\'s house and a retirement home. Internet is available (2 PC\'s) for approx. 4 doll Lindsey, from Netherlands ~ 21st Jan 2012
