Sheets should not be used for curtains. The bath had a gaping opening above the door. The floor is a bit low and tiles uneven. Anyhow, it was quiet and I was able to relax. Location is very good, near to the mall. ERIC, from Barbados ~ 29th Sep 2012

The Durham is a hostel that provides a very homely atmosphere.I felt comfortable and well looked after. I had the luxury of travelling to various parts of Kingston alone. The moderate hostel prices made my week stay more enjoyable and I used the excess funds to purchase meals and souvenirs. The mango, coconut and Ackee trees in the back yard facilitated a true Caribbean feeling. I stayed in the Deluxe Room for 3 nights and had to sleep in the most disgusting smelling bed ever! Even one full bottle of Febreze didn't help... Our door couldn't be closed and later not be locked anymore. People there are nice and like to socialize. Susann, from Germany ~ 17th Mar 2011

The Durham is one of only two cheap places to stay in a somewhat safe area of Kingston. The other is Mikuzi, which is actually in a much safer area. The people at Durham are very nice, which is extremely important to me. However, they're not entirely honest in their advertising. I paid for a @25 room one night and @49 room the next because that's all that was available. I was given the @40 room for both nights. Hurray. I do not recommend it! My friend and I supposed to stay there for 2 nights, but we stayed only one! In the first night SOMEONE ENTERED IN OUR ROOM and stole my friend purse, but there was no money there and the it magically appeared. At night when going back we were robbed IN FRONT OF THE HOSTEL. Kingston is not the safe, but being stolen in the hostel is unacceptable! The owner Oliver was very helpful, went to the police with us, drove us to the airport, but it didnt change our experience!
