This hostel was hands down the worst hostel that we encountered in our three month Journey. The beds were disgusting, the staff was unfriendly, the location was terrible, and there was absolutely nothing interesting about it. After one night, we preferred to pay the owner one nights fee so we didnt have to stay two more. We left that day and stayed in a mcdonalds that was cheaper. There is a curfew, and this hostel is absolutely useless. There are bed bugs.

This hostel is more like a bed and breakfast without the breakfast; it is a part of someone's home. If you have not already figured this out then you should realize that almost all rooms in Japan are small. There is 35 million people in Tokyo, so you have to cram people into small places to fit them all. I used this hostel to sleep as I was only in Tokyo to catch my flight home. The staff are the family members and they are really nice, although only the head of the household speaks English. The other members speak a little, but will most likely speak in Japanese if you ask them a question. Since it is a house I had to rate the character, security, and cleanliness a little lower down. The sign out front says JGH in small letters and I actually passed right by it the first time. There are two cars out front, a white sports car and a red van, at least when I stayed there in July '08. That should at least help some travelers. If you get lost, go to a police box or ask someone politely on the street. The Japanese are more than willing to help you find where you need to go. I rated fun about in the middle because it is not like Asakusa where there are sights everywhere, but this place is more like a neighborhood. You have to travel by train to get to the nearest section of Tokyo like Akihabara, Asakusa, Shinjuku, Roppongi Hills, or Ginza. Japan is very hot and humid in the summer and the air conditioning is only turned on for temperatures over 26 degrees Celsius. Many people might not understand why you would not leave the AC on all the time, but electricity in Japan is very expensive so the AC can only be run for short periods. If you do not think you could sleep in a house with cramped living quarters, your best bet will probably be a hotel, but a hostel like this is much more cost effective than a hotel in Tokyo.

The owner and his wife are very friendly. I do recommend this hostel　to backpackers and don`t be turned off by the size of the rooms. It`s the service that counts!
