Not a fun place at all. If you like to meet people in hostels and stay there listening to music , drinking some beers or other stuff..this is not the place. After 11 pm, they will tell you that there are people sleeping and that you have to make no noise (even a conversation at a medium volume). if you just want to sleep.......anyway, go somewhere else...

the people and the location were excellent. The security was so good you had to wait for someone to let you out of the hostel because everyone was locked in. The manager was really nasty. After changing my booking even after I had a confirmation they made me move beds halfway through my stay. Everyone else at the hostel had similar problems. I would not recommend staying at crab hostel. They staff were unfriendly and unenthusiastic. We couldn't use the reception phone and there were no other hones to use and they wouldn't even call me a taxi to go to the airport because the phone was only for incoming calls. There are plenty of other places around, do not stay here, its not worth it.

It is a well secured hostel and the staff would like to be friendly but the lady who runs it is awful. She ruins the aptmosphere. Also my room smelled of urine but she didn´t do anything about it. I had reserved to stay there during the carnival but I cancelled. You can definatley find a better hostel!!

This hostel provided a terrible experience. Out of 9 guests, all 9 left after only one night's stay at the Crab Hostel in Rio. The staff were awful, they were not accomodating, friendly, or at all comforting. They wanted to charge guests an entire day's rate just for keeping bags for the day. They also charged more for local city tours than other hostels. I do not recommend this hostel. Nor were they equipped to accomodate back packers as advertised, nor did they allow use of hot water for showers. Che Legarto-Ipanema was a much better choice!
