this place has a advert saying they are the cleanest hostel in cairns, nothing could be further from the truth! there are only 3 bathrooms for about 70 girls so most of the time you have to que for a shower or just to go to the toilet. the staff are a bit odd. bedroom doors have to be locked as you leave and most of the girls in my room didnt bother so anyone could just walk into my room if they wanted too. the hostel is in a great location though and the bed i had was comfy

The people who run this hostel are BEASTS. From the start, Dawn was totally scatter-brained, as she stood there for ten minutes upon my arrival, hemming and hawing about how she had mistakenly given my bed away. But mistakes can be forgiven, and she sorted that out fairly quickly for me. What cannot be forgiven, however, is the fact that, after a horrible day of sea sickness on the reef, I returned to the hostel and tried to use their payphone to call the car service which was to pick me up for the airport the next morning. After using nearly two dollars in coins and not being able to reach them (since I kept getting put on hold on the car service's end) I asked recption to place the call for me. Coincidentally, there were two other girls up there who also needed to reach the same car service. Dawn refused, telling me there was another payphone outside I could use. After I explained the phone's working condition was not the problem, and could she please just place a quick local call for all three of us (after all, reception books tours for its guests, so why couldn't it make a quick local call to book an airport shuttle?), she said, "No, this is not a hotel, and why should we make an exception to help you? After all, it costs us fifty cents." I think my response said it all: "I would give a stranger on the street fifty cents if he needed help, let alone a customer at my hostel." Then she practically called me stupid or a liar, saying I "probably didn't even put fifty cents in the phone". When I got angry, she called me a "bitch" and told me she didn't want "my kind" staying there. I gladly collected my things and left. I walked down to the hostel on the corner - Koala Beach Resort- and reception there gladly ordered my shuttle for me, upon my check-in. Isn't this the way a business - especially a youth hostel - should operate?
