The Coolangatta Sands Hostel is brilliantly located in the heart of Coolangatta, the very first stop on the Gold Coast once you cross the border into Queensland from New South Wales, just up from Byron Bay.

Coolangatta is home to Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore the worlds surfing champions and their favourite surfing breaks like Snapper Rocks and D-Bah which can be found directly across the road.

We are the closest hostel on the Gold Coast to the beach. Our hostel boasts modern new facilities and downstairs you will find The Sands lounge bar, Kirrabelle Brasserie and sports bar. It is a perfect hostel for anyone keen to chill out, surf, take on the beautiful beaches of the Gold Coast or explore the local hinterland rain forest.

For those a bit more adventurous we highly recommend the Coolangatta Adventure Crew for all your activities. Diving and fishing around the Cook Island Marine Park, surfing lessons from the world's best surf coach or taking the plunge with the local Gold Coast Skydive; one of the few places in Australia you are allowed to land on the beach!

We are located 100 meters from the World's famous surf breaks; Superbanks, Kirra Point and D-Bah, and 10 minutes from Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and our new wildlife volunteer program. You can also dive at the beautiful Cook Island Marine Park and go whale watching frpm June to October. We are a 40 minute drive to Mt Warning, Springbrook and Lamington National Parks and just a 30 minute drive to the Gold Coast theme parks including Movieworld, Dreamworld, Seaworld and Wet'n'Wild

The Sands is steeped in history having been one of the areas longest standing venues. In recent times we went through a complete renovation with the upstairs accommodation being converted into a state-of-the-art budget traveller's hostel with all the modern facilities expected by today's traveller.

The Sands Hostel facilities and features include; king single bunk beds with your bed made prior to your arrival, mixed dorm rooms or female only available, air conditioning, secure electronic card access, a classic Queenslander balcony with day beds overlooking Kirra Point, a modern communal kitchen, bathrooms and laundry, a Global Gossip Internet Cafe with wireless access, backpack lockers with a built in power point for you to charge your iPod, camera or phone, late check in at reception, a tour desk and booking service.
