This week our City Focus turns to the Scottish capital and much loved city of Edinburgh. Upon visiting Edinburgh for the first time two of the main things that will strike you are the beautiful architecture along with how easy it is to get around this small city centre.
Edinburgh is architecturally rich and a quick stroll through its most popular street – The Royal Mile – will showcase this immediately. You will find many of Edinburgh top attractions along The Royal Mile including St Giles Cathedral, The Real Mary King's Close, and many free museums and galleries. This is also the main route that many walking tours of Edinburgh will take as its history is long and varied.
Towering above this popular street along with the rest of the city is Edinburgh Castle. This is another of the city’s biggest attractions so make sure to plan your visit early to avoid the queues. And if you are lucky enough to get a sunny day in Edinburgh the views from the castle can be amazing.
Edinburgh is also famed for its nightlife with areas like Grassmarket and Lawnmarket being home to some popular bars. At weekends most bars will close around 1am and clubs can stay open until roughly 3am. Around these areas you can also find some great restaurants serving a range of cuisines from Italian to French to traditional Scottish fare.
And after all that sightseeing, eating and drinking you will most likely be in need of a comfy place to lie down! Book yourself into one of Edinburgh’s many popular hostels including these top rated ones:
Royal Mile Backpackers or Castle Rock Hostel.
