Duanwu Festival/ Chinese Dragon Boat Festival June 6th
This traditional holiday is a public holiday in mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong as well as more countries with Chinese populations. The festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar on which the Chinese calendar is based meaning this year it is set to fall on June 6th. Some of the activities on this day include preparing lots of food to eat, drinking wine and racing dragon boats.
Isle of Wight Festival 11th-12th
This music festival takes place every year in the Isle of Wight, England. It draws huge crowds to the destination every year as it is a popular festival on the summer music calendar. Previous performers at the Isle of Wright Festival include bands like Muse, The Rolling Stones, Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters.
Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling Festival 11th-12th
The world famous Coopers Hill Cheese Rolling Festival takes place every year near Gloucester, England and some stories about its history date this unusual tradition back to prehistoric origins. There are many other games and activities taking place that are fun for all the family.
Edinburgh Film Festival 15th-26th
If you are a film buff then you cannot miss out on the Edinburgh Film Festival. This popular festival involves twelve days packed full of premieres, parties and great viewing. San Francisco Pride 25th-26th
San Francisco Pride is probably the highlight of the US pride calendar as this city has always been renowned for being the gay friendly capital. The San Francisco Pride festival has been running for over forty years and this weekend long festival is packed full of celebrations, exhibitions and an amazing and colourful parade.
Christopher Street Day Berlin 25th
Over thirty years old, the Christopher Street Day in Berlin is a celebration of the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community. It’s held every year to mark the first significant uprising against the discrimination of the gay community by police that was held in Greenwich Village, New York in 1969.
