If you were to hear that thousands of people from all over the world travel to a town for a huge food fight, and do it every year, you might think someone was telling you a lie. Well, they wouldn't be as it does happen every year, the town is Bunol in the Valencia region in Spain and the food fight is more commonly known as La Tomatina.
This world famous festival is also a much loved tradition in the locality and while no one is really sure as to how it came about, one theory is that it started as a friendly food-fight amongst locals. But however it originated, La Tomatina is one of Spain's most popular festivals today. It takes place on the last Wednesday of every August where tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown onto the streets and everyone just lets loose! The festival is a week long in total as there are parades, music and firework displays before and after the main event.
So if you want to take part in one of the world's biggest food fights make sure you get to Bunol this August. And for more info check out our La Tomatino feature.
