Queen's Day in Amsterdam

Queen's Day in Amsterdam

Queen's Day, or Koninginnedag as the Dutch call it, is the biggest street party in Amsterdam which takes place every year on April 30th. It is a national holiday in the Netherlands and it's when the nation comes together to celebrate the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands, Queen Beatrix's birthday.

Queen's Day also brings about the Orange Craze where everyone dresses in orange for the celebrations and it is also a reference to the country's political houses. Many places around the Netherlands will start the celebrations the night before April 30th with different events and balls taking place.

Then on the day itself Amsterdam comes alive in a sea of orange as everyone takes to the streets and boats along the canal to party. There is also a 'freemarket' that allows everyone to sell things on the street like one big large flea market.

So if you are planning a trip to Amsterdam make sure to do it around April 30th so you can join in on all of these street festivities around Amsterdam or all over the Netherlands.
