European Capital of Culture 2011

If you want to visit a city this year that has lots of culture on offer then look no further than these two. 2011 will see Turku in Finland and Tallinn in Estonia taking the title for the year as the European Capitals of Culture.

The European Capital of Culture is a city designated by the European Union for a year and throughout these 12 months the cities will host many cultural events that have a specific European feel to them. These cities are picked a few years in advance and the cities that are picked to be the capitals of culture will have a considerable level of culture, social and economic benefits. Getting picked to be a European Capital of Culture is a great way for a city to regenerate its image and amenities. If a city is shown to have the attractions necessary to become a candidate for a capital of culture then this will see a boost in tourism for years to come.

So if you have ever wanted to visit Tallinn in Estonia or Turku in Finland, then 2011 is the ideal year to do so as both cities will be in the spotlight and packed full of attractions as they embrace the title of a European Capital of Culture.
