Top 10 Beaches for 2016
Some people can take a two week holiday and spend every day relaxing at the beach. Some prefer the beach to do activities, take a jog first thing in the morning, party at night or even just to take a break and breathe in the sea air. Whatever your choice somewhere with a beach gives you the chance to both relax and enjoy life. Here are ten of the best for 2016.
Waikiki, Hawaii, USA
A beautiful white sandy beach, Wakiki is a surfer’s paradise. Even if you're just a beginner this is the perfect place to start. For nightlife, head to the popular Kuhio Avenue which has plenty of bars to give you a hangover that you can shake off next day back at the beach.
Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia
Located south of Kuta, Jimbaran has become more and more popular over the last number of years. There are also many affordable restaurants along the beachfront and being a fishing village you can be sure you'll be getting the freshest serving of seafood caught each day.
Barceloneta, Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is so popular as a weekend city destination that some may forget it also has many beaches along the coast. One of the better ones is Barceloneta where you will find people having a game of football or volleyball - why not join in? If you choose to lie back on a sun lounger, take advantage of the many offers of food, cocktails and massages.
Long Beach, Cape Town, South Africa
Another surfer destination near the town of Kommetjie on the south west coast of South Africa and on the way from Cape Town to Cape Point. A quieter and smaller beach area, make the most of the little pubs and restaurants where you're guaranteed to make some new local friends.
Koh Chang, Thailand
A beautiful island off the east coast of Thailand, Koh Chang is the perfect place to throw off your backpack after the partying you've done around the other islands. This island still has a nightlife but with lots of idyllic beaches, it's more ideal for relaxing while having a massage or reading a book.
Zrce beach, Novalja, Croatia
A destination to rival Ibiza, this beach is now the place to go for parties and festivals, particularly their 'Spring Break' festival which happens in June. Don't expect to sleep much and be prepared for 24 hour partying.
Juangriego, Maragarita Island, Venezuela
If you want to see an amazing sunset as your day on the beach draws to a close, then Juangriego is the place to do it. This is one of the less touristy beaches on the island so jump on boat or a plane from the mainland and really immerse yourself in the local culture.
Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, Australia
Popular with backpackers Airlie Beach has a mix of atmosphere where you can relax and take it easy as well as enjoy the very active party scene at night. It also serves as a gateway for the Great Barrier reef and Whitsunday islands.
Bull Island, Dublin, Ireland
No, this is not a printing error. While it may not have a guaranteed hot climate like the other beaches on this list, Dollymount Strand serves as a place for walks, swimming and even kite-surfing. It also has two golf courses if you fancy practicing your swing.
Long Island, New York, USA
Another place where 'beach' does not come to mind first. But don't dismiss the number of beaches you can find here. You can go horse-back riding, kayaking and fishing. Even if you are on a city break, if it's summer, make the most of what's outside the city.
