15 fantastic Irish bars you can party in on St. Patrick's Day

No matter your nationality, big cities everywhere are turning green for the day and what better way to enjoy the craic than having a lovely pint of beer in your nearest Irish pub*. *Note: Don't let the names of these places put you off!

Brendan Behan, Boston, USA

Often called the best Irish pub in Boston,  the dark and atmospheric Brendan Behan has great music - as well as a mixed selection of drinks.  You can also bring in your own food since they don't serve their own (strange but true!)

Lennox the Pub, Barcelona, Spain

Right slap bang in the centre of Barcelona, and just off Las Ramblas near the Gothic Quarter, Lennox might not have the most Irish-sounding name but it makes up for it in friendliness and craic.

Green river in Chicago

The Irish Times pub, Phuket, Thailand

Tagged as the only Irish-owned and managed pub in Phuket, this one surely transports you to Ireland - except perhaps for the weather.

JJ Hill, Florence, Italy

Just on the outskirts of beautiful Florence lies the town of Fiesole.  Here you will find JJ Hill's Irish pub with authentic music and friendliness to boot.  Their burgers are pretty awesome too!

Foxy John's, Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland

An Irish pub in Ireland has to be mentioned, so try Dingle's Foxy John's.  It's a strange old hardware shop as well as a pub, so If you have been looking for a padlock for your belongings perhaps you can get it here while you enjoy a few beers over the rest of the day!

St Patrick's Day bars around the world

Durty Nelly's Bar, Paddington, Sydney, Australia

A more modern Irish bar, this may be one for a few casual relaxed drinks to remember the Irish saint.  It's a bar connected with various Gaelic football and hurling teams, showing matches on their TV screens.

O'Driscoll's, Cape Town, South Africa

Run by a young Dublin girl, this has been described as a 'good old-fashioned pub' - something a lot of people like in an Irish bar.  They serve all the usual Irish beers like Guinness along with some favourite Irish whiskies like Jameson and Bushmills.

The Wild Rover Hostel, Cusco, Peru

As well as being a hostel, Wild Rover has a popular Irish bar attached.  Known for great parties and happy hours you'll be singing into the night.

St Patrick's Day parade

PJ O'Brien's, Cairns, Australia

There is always something going here so be sure that St Patrick's Day will be no different.  Meet lots of other backpackers from around the world and enjoy the live bands!

Blarney Stone, Vancouver, Canada

They promise the best party on the west coast for St Patrick's Day - as well as the previous four days in anticipation!  DJs and live bands are lined up so Blarney Stone is just waiting for you to drop in and join the party.

Lapa Irish Pub, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Guinness is on tap here so where else would you go for St Patrick's Day in Rio?  Live music is also a popular attraction - you may even get to practice some Irish dancing on the night!

St Patrick's day green drinks

Corcoran's Traditional Irish pub, Paris, France

They say it's hard to get a good pint of Guinness outside Ireland - but Corcoran's may change your mind.  Add that to any sporting event being shown and the friendly Irish atmosphere, and you'll have a Paddy's day to remember!

The Craic, Christchurch, New Zealand

Get your breakfast here when it opens at 8am on St Patrick's Day...and then stay for the day.  This is a place full of entertainment every night and you won't be disappointed.

O'Mulligan's, Marrakech, Morocco

Irish pubs can turn up in the strangest of places. None more so than in Marrakech!  It may not be the most authentic Irish bar but in a place where bars may be scarce you can still guarantee a celebration of St Patrick's Day here.

Bernie's Irish pub, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Making the Irish community feel at home here in the Far East is Bernie's Irish pub.  But any nationality is welcome and late food service is a must to soak up the booze consumed over the day.
