No fly zone!
Here at Hostels.com there has only been one topic of conversation on our lips all weekend and that's been the flight disruption over the Icelandic volcanic ash. And we'll hazard a guess that it's what most of Europe have been talking about too. It's all over the media, both traditional and online with minute by minute updates of what airports and countries are opening and closing their air-space.
Passengers are stranded all over Europe and further afield since Thursday and even though there's talk of some UK airspace opening tomorrow morning, nothing can be set in stone just yet. Media reports are portraying heart breaking stories of families stuck at airports with little money after their holidays, or of family and friends missing out on big events like weddings and honeymoons.
While facebook pages and websites are using the travel crisis as a means of being innovative and setting up pages to help out stranded passengers with car-pooling and free places to stay. It is in fact safe to say that this volcanic ash/ flight disruption has taken on a life of its own and will be remembered for years to come. It's also proving just how much we use and rely on air travel and what the industry really is worth.Have you been stranded or have you made some epic journeys in order to get home this weekend? Share your story in a comment below because we are fascinated by the lengths some people are going to in order to get home! We're hearing stories of $5,000 taxi fares and 24 hour bus journeys! So share your story with us! And in the meantime take a look at these amazing volcano pictures here that we came across today. Fingers crossed that flights will get back to normal for all you travellers out there!
