Tourist attractions - Take your pick!

Over the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to visit some of the world’s top cities, both for work and leisure. And every time I get to one of these cities I have a personal check list of top attractions to see when I’m there. Top of the list are the ones that are probably top of everyone’s list when it comes to sightseeing in a particular place, but in some places the list will include tourist attractions that are regarded as the world’s top tourist attractions.

My last trip to New York saw me with possibly the longest list yet, many of which would be counted as some of the world’s top attractions. For me they were The Brooklyn Bridge and Empire State Building, but for others these New York attractions might not even make it into their list for top New York attractions, let alone top world attractions.

So, with that in mind I got searching the web for what other people regard as the world’s top tourist attractions. With most of them there was a lot of crossover when it came to the big ones such as The Great Wall of China, Greece’s Acropolis, Paris’ Eiffel Tower and Machu Picchu, in Peru. However, in some lists these top attractions didn’t even get a look in! Obviously sightseeing has a lot to do with personal taste. Some tourists will only go to the top named attractions in the guide book, while others will go out of their way to stay well clear of these places and search out lesser known attractions.

So we’re asking for your help! What are your top attractions and must sees from around the world. If your friend was going to Hong Kong for a day what is the one thing you would tell them to see? If your sibling was passing through Scandinavia, where is the one place you would tell them to stop off? Is there any city in the world that you would recommend going to just to see one attraction in particular? Let us know what you think are the world’s top attractions and we’ll put together our list of what are Hostels.com readers Top Tourist Attractions of the World!
