According to I Amsterdam, the city comes with a somewhat "mysterious quality" that is hard to quantify - an "indescribable nature somewhere between quaint and exhilarating" that is a surprise for many who go there.
This, the news source explained, "is why it manages to put most anyone in a romantic mood". So there you have it - don't discount Amsterdam as a place to whisk your loved one away too, even if more likely places like Paris or Rome are calling out to you.
Apparently, this side to the Dutch city can be put down in part to the fact that there's a lot of water to be found, towered over by countless centuries-old examples of beautiful architecture. And the website recommended that you consider heading out of your hostel on a night-time stroll through Amsterdam's streets, as you'll have lots of lovely views of the buildings reflecting in the water below.
That said, if you're heart is set on a trip elsewhere, Florence could also be the destination of choice for you. Traveller Shamita Singha recently noted in an interview with DNA India that this region is the most romantic of all cities in Italy.
