Backpack your way to Bestival

Backpack your way to Bestival
I'm a massive fan of music festivals (as most backpackers are, I believe). For whatever reason, standing in a field in the probably-pouring rain mellowing out to the tunes of my favourite bands really and truly does appeal and Bestival definitely ranks up there as one of my favourite events to attend. It's a shame it's so far away but then again, that just makes it more of an adventure. I've not been for a few years but I've been lucky enough to secure myself a ticket to the 2009 extravaganza and am now balancing myself precariously on the tightrope of excitement while I wait to hop my plane to the Isle of Wight in September.

This year's weekend looks set to be fantastic, not least because of the fancy dress. I'm never normally one to dress up but Bestival makes it all seem worthwhile and it's great to see what weird and wonderful costumes people come up with - and live in - for three days. The festival is being billed as Bestival 2009: A Space Oddity with the fancy dress theme being space-related, to tie in with the 40th anniversary of the moon landings.

I'm not quite sure what I intend to go as - and I've not got much time left to think about it so any suggestions, on a postcard, would be much appreciated indeed! So far, I've considered the man in the moon, just for simplicity's sake. When you're travelling over from Colorado, the last thing you want to be dragging through customs is a giant alien space suit, complete with goggly antennae.

What I might just do is head over to fancy dress shop joke.co.uk, who are partners with Bestival, and purchase my costume ahead of time. I've had a quick glance already and they seem to have a fairly authentic Buzz Lightyear get-up that I'm fairly sure I could pull off.

Regardless, with bands like Kraftwerk, Squarepusher and Michael Nymen playing the fields, I'm bound to have a wicked time. Can't wait!ADNFCR-2435-ID-19298168-ADNFCR
