And you'll be in excellent company if you do go - the International Visitor Survey apparently registered 183,100 backpackers heading over to NZ in the year to June 2009. That's a lot of hostellers in 12 months. The campaign, which is aimed primarily at markets in the northern hemisphere, to include the UK and Europe, is to be conducted predominantly on the internet, following a new partnership with networking site Bebo.
An online reality TV show called The Gap Year: Challenge New Zealand is being created which will track the progress of five competitors as they head around the country taking part in various challenges. Bebo viewers will be offered the opportunity to vote for winners as the contest goes along and can keep up with the five intrepid explorers through blogs and online diaries.
If you fancy taking part - and you're from either the UK or Ireland (sorry, rest of the world) - then make yourself an audition video and upload it to the Bebo website as soon as possible. You too could be trekking the New Zealand turf trying your hand at jetboating, canyon swinging, parapenting and heli-skiing. Go on, you know you want to.
