Bed down in Economy!

Bed down in Economy!

Air New Zealand could be changing how we fly in economy... and for the better too! The airline is introducing the 'Skycouch' in April to its Boeing 777 carriers which could well make flying as a couple or a small family a much more comfortable experience without paying high prices for upgraded seats.

Air New Zealand have unveiled their new design for coach seating that turns three seats into a 'sky couch'. The airline designed this innovative new concept, which were then built by manufacturer Recaro and have large flip-up cushions that fill the space between the end of the seat and the next row of seats. The arm rests then retract and you have a flat surface. And to keep it safe the seat-belt extenders enable passengers to be buckled in when necessary.

This new design will go into service in December, starting with Air New Zealand flights between Auckland and Los Angeles. And if you want to avail of this option to lie down in comfort and in economy, then you are going to have to buy all three seats, even if there are only two of you flying. However, if you do want that third one Air New Zealand are offering it at half price after you buy the first two.We reckon they are going to be a huge success on long haul flights and hopefully will become common practise amongst all airlines! But until they do reach all carriers then get booking you hostels here so you can have somewhere comfy booked for when you land from that long flight!
