Strictly Come Dancing sees celebs battle it out to be crowned champion of the ballroom floor - it's the same as Dancing with the Stars in the US - while Dancing on Ice does the same, but with skates and frozen water involved. And now that the popularity of American Idol-type programmes is being converted into equivalents for street and other kinds of dancing, the dominance is almost complete.
Just to prove the point, those staying in London hostels this summer will be able to see some of the many events taking place as part of Big Dance. Plans were announced for the festival, which has actually been running every two years since 2006, this week and include one great big dance for 10,000 people that will culminate in Trafalgar Square.
Don't worry if you can't make it to a cheap London hostel between July 3rd and 11th this year, as arrangements are already being made for the 2012 event - just in time for the Olympics. And if you're elsewhere in the country then you may still get a taste of the action, since communities and cities all over are being invited to join in.
Commenting on the plans, London mayor Boris Johnson remarked: "Big Dance is a terpsichorean feast that takes it quite literally one step further." Terpsichorean means of or pertaining to dance, for those of you who are wondering.
