Booking a stay in a Madrid hostel between now and October 3rd could prove enlightening indeed, as the city's Costume Museum is hosting an exhibition called the Art of Perfume, featuring pieces taken from famed French manufacturer Roger & Gallet's collection.
However, it's not all cut glass and atomisers - anyone leaving their hostels in Madrid to come and have a look at this intriguing display will find themselves faced with a number of different artefacts, ranging from photographs to posters and other graphic designs.
But those more interested in the history behind perfume will also be presented with a variety of interesting stories, such as the origins of Roger & Gallet's own scent - apparently, the roots of this brand can be traced as far back as 1693, when Jean-Paul Feminis, on a trip to Cologne, created and perfected wonder water, or Aqua Mirabilis. This itself is said to have originated in the late 12th century in Cologne, where the Faculty of Medicine had such faith in its medicinal properties that it patented it to safeguard the secret formula.
What may also be of interest is The Golden Age of Haute Couture, running from July 16th to November 28th and displaying designs by Bastida, Balenciaga, Rodriguez, Berhanyer, Flotante, Rovira and other predominantly forgotten artists.
