Brazil set for Olympic tourism boost
The home of the Copacabana beat out competition from Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo to win the right to host what is surely the greatest sporting spectacle in the world and I for one would love to head there myself.
Of course, Brazil is already a haven for tourists, with visitors to hostels in the country enjoying a range of attractions that include the Christ the Redeemer statue when they are not lounging on the famous beach. But trips could be set to increase significantly, if the experiences of past Olympic host cities are anything to go by.
Laura Rendell-Dunn of Journey Latin America certainly expects this to be the case and she praised the decision to choose Rio, stating: "It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and it is incredible to have such an important event take place there surrounded by mountains and the Atlantic Ocean."
She was also keen to point out everything else that the country has to offer and suggested that anyone travelling for the Games should take some extra time to visit "the beautiful beaches, waterfalls and jungles". In fact, why wait until the Olympics? Beat the rush and head to Brazil for your next backpacking adventure!
