Chase storms on your backpacking holiday
Anyone who watched the movie Twister and thought that Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton had it made running around the country chasing tornados can now experience much of the same if they sign up to a Storm Chasing Adventure Tour.

It sounds pretty crazy - although I'm sure it's a lot of fun - but a group of hardy individuals have been offering adventurous backpackers the opportunity to hunt down their own whirlwinds for more than ten years and they're now taking bookings for the 2010 season.

For those with a desire to dice with death, holidays to Tornado Alley - in territories in Texas, Colorado and South Dakota - can be booked with the team between May and June, so you'll hopefully see some crazy meteorological happenings as well as getting a feel for the great American countryside.

Not only will you bear witness to some of the more terrifying natural events that can happen but you will also play a part in an activity that provides information to the National Weather Service, to help towns and cities in areas that are often badly affected by storms. Unfortunately, the Storm Chasing adventurers can't guarantee that you'll definitely get to see a tornado as they only crop up on between 25 to 30 per cent of the tours, but they do promise that you'll have plenty of amazing photo opportunities with which to stun your friends and family when you get home.

If a quieter time is what you're after, perhaps a trip to the slightly more serene Isle of Man would be a better idea. They're holding a film festival over there towards the end of September and I'm told it's a place where hurricanes hardly ever happen.

Luckily there are so many other beautiful cities around Europe which offer an exciting nightlife at half or even a third of the cost.
