OK, I admit that I'm the first to get frustrated when festive commercials and promotions start popping up in the middle of the summer and it seems that they're creeping further up the calendar every year.
But when you're talking about travel - and cheap travel in particular - often planning ahead is very important. As much as I enjoy the excitement of a last-minute booking, generally my backpacking trips benefit from some preparation.
So, back to Christmas and the question of where to go. Well, one option that has been brought to my attention is the stunning Czech capital city - Prague. Situated on the Vltava river and home of the famous Charles Bridge (that one in the Mission: Impossible movie), anyone I know who has been has told me it's a fantastic place.
I have some good news for our friends in England then, as budget airline bmibaby has just announced that it is starting some cheap flights from East Midlands Airport to Prague.
They begin in December, just in time to head to the Christmas markets, although if you're planning a stay in hostels there you might actually want to be there a week after Christmas itself.
That's because commercial director at bmibaby Julian Carr had this to say: "For those looking to do something different for New Year's Eve, the Czech capital has a host of events taking place that are sure to be very popular."
