I'd probably fall somewhere in between the two, as while I enjoy backpacker travel and new cultural experiences, there's a lot to be said for a lazy afternoon with the sand between your toes.
Flight search engine site Skyscanner has now done a little research into what the preferred destinations of various people are and the results seem to indicate that there is indeed a bit of a mix.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Britons tend to look for some summer sun as Spain tops their list, followed by France and Italy. For Spaniards themselves, meanwhile, it is the UK that is most popular, while Italy is in second place.
And Americans do not appear to be too concerned with finding good weather - with the UK also the top destination for people from the US. So it seems I'm not alone in looking for the cultural experience and for those heading to the UK - and London in particular - hostels can be a great place to stay while on your travels.
If you're not targeting London, a good way to get around can be to hire a car and Skyscanner recently announced that in addition to comparing flights, its users are now able to check out rental companies as well.
