Don't feed the monkeys at London's Robot Zoo
Travelling is all about gaining new experience and acquiring a level of knowledge that can only really be achieved through seeing what the world has to offer. That's why I think that if you're staying in a London hostel you should really head down to the Horniman Museum to check out the city's Robot Zoo exhibition. You'll get to see a bit of the big smoke on your way to the building and you'll also glean some hard-and-fast factoids about the inner workings of the animal kingdom. Plus, if you are on a family vacation, this is one activity that your kids are sure to enjoy.

So what are you waiting for? It's only on until November 8th so you'll have to get your proverbial skates on if you want to have a look, but I think you'll regret it if you don't make it there. According to the museum's website, guests can enter an "amazing world of robotic creatures and discover mind-boggling facts about animals" through hands-on interactive shows explaining things that I have always wanted to know the answer to, like how chameleons change their colour.

Slightly more gruesomely, there are models on display that reveal the insides of various creatures, apparently showing them as "a host of familiar machine parts and gadgets", including shock absorbers and pumps that demonstrate the natural system. I think it sounds absolutely brilliant and I wish I wasn't half way around the world as I would definitely be putting in a pit stop here.

If you're unlucky enough to miss it and are in town after the event, I've found this little snippet of an exhibition for you: The Nature as Designer show is on until May 2010 and is dedicated to exploring nature's inspirational side for artists and designers.
