Don't forget your costume if you're staying in a San Francisco hostel
Well, regardless of their fate, the band had the right idea - going to the Bay area and staying in a hostel in San Francisco is always a good plan, as the city's forever alive and kicking with crazy and fun things to get up to. The dates of October 23rd to 24th are no exception whatsoever and, for the hosteller who plans ahead, thousands of dollars could be won if their costume is voted best-in-class at 2009's Exotic Erotic Ball & Expo, being held at The Cow Palace.
I'm on their website right now and it looks … well, truth be told, it looks fairly naughty, although definitely a lot of fun. With over 65 live performances being put on across five stages in the venue, even if you don't win the contest you're sure to have a great time. Watch out particularly for the circus sideshows as they're generally quite interesting and can be rather mystifying. If the competition is your reason for going, choose one of the following categories in which to strut your stuff: Ms or Mr Exotic Erotic and Best Costume. Bonne chance, mon amies!
If you'd rather watch people in dress-up regalia than do it yourself, Donegal in Ireland may be the destination for you instead. At the start of November, the town of Bundoran is hosting its annual Elvis Festival, with some of the world's best tribute acts paying homage to Graceland's finest.
