Edinburgh gears up for rugby spectacular
Admittedly, I've never been much of sports fan at all - but I do take an interest when I'm travelling because you can learn so much about a culture from the supporters of various shapes and sizes you come across.
And if you want to see true passion, you definitely want to be setting off to western Europe in the next two months. That's because rugby's Six Nations tournament gets underway on February 6th.
I'd personally recommend a visit to a cheap Edinburgh hostel, as you can combine the sights of this great city with a match at the famous Murrayfield stadium. The championship is massively popular - pitting the national teams of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy against each other in a round-robin format - but tickets can still be snapped up.
According to Scottish rugby, more than 10,000 are still available for the game against France on Sunday February 7th. Rugby fans staying in cheap Edinburgh hostels may be particularly intrigued by this encounter as the visitors are the bookies' favourite to win the tournament, although my personal preference would be Scotland's other home game.
On March 13th they entertain England, with the significance of this historical rivalry underlined by the fact that a trophy - the Calcutta Cup - is on offer to the winner of their annual match-up. If you're not a rugby fan now, I guarantee you will be after watching one of these games!
