Edinburgh welcomes Science Festival
Let's hear it for Scotland! If you're staying in an Edinburgh hostel right now then you're a very lucky duck indeed, as the city is playing host to a Science Festival which starts next month and, in order to get things going, a photography exhibition is being put on this week in St Andrew Square.

This gem of an event has been brought to my attention by the Edinburgh Evening News and those of you who are interested in what's in store if you do decide to make the trip from your hostel to the display will be treated to a series of 60 massive pictures all taken by famed photographer Steve Bloom.

It's being called The Spirit of the Wild and features snaps taken by the artist over more than 12 years, with frames including pictures of leaping dolphins, an elephant going for a swim, polar bears and one - my personal favourite - of a great white caught in the air as it chases a rather pathetic-looking seal pup.

The Science Festival itself is on between April 3rd and 17th and 57-year-old Mr Bloom said: "An outdoor exhibition like this is something very special … I always hope to show people how amazing these animals can be, but people need to be aware they are under threat and hopefully this will help that."

Highlights of the event include a Video Game Studio - a workshop that gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how these are created - and Sonic Dreams - an experiment that combines art and science that takes place in a sound lab.
